The conference, in partnership with Odd Arts, aims to explore and tackle racial inequalities in Mental Health Services. We are hoping to increase awareness of the inequalities facing those from racially minoritised groups.

Working with people from different backgrounds, cultures and belief systems, to create a space where we can work collaboratively and think about ways we can address racial inequalities in Mental Health Services and also celebrate diversity.

During the event we will be showcasing short films, performances, workshops, and inspirational speakers with the opportunity to network throughout.

Although this conference focuses on Mental Health Services, it is open to anyone.

Spaces are limited so please always let us know if you can’t attend, so we can offer your space to someone else.

Workshops include:

Black, British, Male:

This interactive workshop has the aim of unrooting the harmful and limited ways Black British men can enact their masculinity, with an underpinning goal to open up discussions as to how this situation can be remapped, and the narrow template of Black British identities and behaviours can be “opened up” for renewal, growth and change.

Working with Racialised trauma in therapy using EMDR :

This workshop will consider how we might work in an anti-racist way in therapy.

Colourism is more than shady:

This interactive workshop will be exploring the effects and existence of colourism within modern culture and its toxic nature within beauty standards. We will be delving into the harmful ways in which it creates division and poor self image amongst communities already marginalised by racism and discrimination.

South Asian Access to Mental Health Services :

This interactive workshop will be exploring the factors deterring South Asians from accessing mental health services and how we consider the mental health needs of people from South Asian backgrounds. We will delve into the construct of Izzat (shame) and understand what role this plays within this.

Circles of Awareness:

This interactive workshop is a space to explore our experiences of both discrimination and privilege, our feelings about this and what we can learn from it.

Social Graces:

This interactive workshop will introduce and increase awareness of the Social GRACES model, a tool designed to address power differentials and inequalities in mental health services.

Islamic Psychology, spirituality and Global Events :

This workshop will give an insight into Islamic Psychology, working with Muslim clients using an Islamic model of the self and recent Global events and its impact when working with clients.

Power, Ethnicity and Mental Health:

This workshop will explore the role that power and feelings of powerlessness play in our lives and how this relates to ethnicity and mental health services.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Thank you and we look forward to collaborating with you.
